Sweetwater Creek State Park is a 2,549-acre wilderness park located approximately 8 miles from our hotel. It features 15 miles of hiking trails, a 215-acre reservoir, Civil War-era mill ruins, and is open daily from 7 AM to dark.

This award-winning 2,549-acre state park opened in 1972 and is one of Georgia’s most visited natural destinations, yet it remains surprisingly peaceful and uncrowded.
The park features 15 miles of well-maintained hiking trails across four color-coded routes. The most popular is the Red (History) Trail, a 1-mile trail that leads through dense woodland to the five-story ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company — a textile mill burned by Union forces during the Civil War. The trail then continues to a scenic overlook above a mile-long stretch of white-water rapids, making it one of the most visually stunning hikes in the Atlanta area.
The park also surrounds the 215-acre George Sparks Reservoir, which is popular for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Boat and paddle equipment rentals are available on-site.
